Merced County has opened a new Resource and Recovery area at its landfill, north of Merced, to provide a convenient one-stop drop-off location for residents to dispose of items that are harmful to landfills. The facility accepts mattresses, tires, e-waste, clothes, used motor oil, appliances, and more, which are then hauled off-site by contracted organizations to be reused or recycled.

Why it matters

The new facility helps extend the life of the Merced County landfill and comply with state regulatory standards for proper disposal of hazardous and recyclable materials. It gives residents an easy way to responsibly get rid of items that would otherwise end up in the landfill, harming the environment.

The details

The Resource and Recovery area is located at 7040 North Highway 59 and is open during regular landfill hours, Monday to Saturday, 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. The facility is designed as a convenient, one-stop drop-off location where people can properly dispose of mattresses and box springs, tires, e-waste, clothes and textiles, used motor oil, appliances, concrete, antifreeze, batteries, paint, and carpet.
