Genesis has revealed three new prototype bicycles, including an all-road model that is expected to become the next iteration of their Equilibrium line. The bike is crafted from custom Japanese steel, with the design team focusing on key components like the down tube, bottom bracket, and chain stays to achieve a more engaging riding experience.

Why it matters

The new Equilibrium prototype showcases Genesis's commitment to innovation and their willingness to explore unique material combinations to improve bicycle performance. This aligns with the growing consumer demand for versatile all-road bikes that can handle a variety of terrain.

The details

The chief engineer at Genesis, Ryan Carroll, explained that the design process involved combining different grades of steel in various parts of the bike to enhance performance. The down tube was custom-made in Japan, while the chainstays are constructed from heat-treated chromoly. The top tube features chromoly for classic smoothness and compliance. The bike is also designed to accommodate 40mm tires and wireless electronic groupsets.

  • The prototypes were unveiled at the recent IceBike show in Manchester.
  • Genesis expects the fully branded versions of all three prototypes to hit the market sometime in late 2026.
