Puscifer has released the official music video for its latest single 'Bad Wolf,' which was directed by AF Schepperd. The animated video comes alongside the band's first full-length project in five years, the album 'Normal Isn't,' which reunites Maynard James Keenan, Mat Mitchell, and Carina Round.

Why it matters

The new Puscifer album 'Normal Isn't' marks the band's first major release in half a decade, giving fans a fresh dose of the group's signature dark electronic sound and lyrical wit. The 'Bad Wolf' video provides a visual accompaniment to the album's thematic exploration of folklore and the 'inner battle between good/wise/loving choices and poor/selfish/hateful choices.'

The details

The 'Bad Wolf' video was directed by AF Schepperd and premieres alongside 'Normal Isn't,' which was written and recorded in Arizona, Los Angeles, and during last year's Sessanta tour. The album features contributions from Greg Edwards on bass, Gunnar Olsen and Sarah Jones on drums, and additional appearances by Tony Levin and Danny Carey. According to Mat Mitchell, the group aimed for a rawer, more aggressive sound by stripping away limitations and letting the guitars lead.

What they’re saying

“Oral Tradition, the practice of passing down legends, myths, and metaphors, has always fascinated me. The stories contain history, important lessons, values, social contracts and the like. One of my favorites has always been the Cherokee tale of the Two Wolves. This story serves as a metaphor for our inner battle between good/wise/loving choices and poor/selfish/hateful choices. The wolf that thrives is the wolf you feed.”

— Maynard James Keenan

“Normal Isn't reflects this time we are living in. As storytellers and artists, our job is to observe, interpret, and report. We take in our environment and share what we see, and what we see around us does not appear normal. Not by a long shot.”

— Mat Mitchell

What’s next

Puscifer will be hosting more than 90 screenings at independent record stores for its new concert film 'Normal Isn't: Puscifer Live at the Pacific Stock Exchange,' which captures the first live performance of the new album.

The takeaway

Puscifer's new album 'Normal Isn't' and its accompanying 'Bad Wolf' music video showcase the band's continued evolution, blending their signature dark electronic sound with a more urgent, raw creative approach that reflects the current state of the world through the lens of folklore and metaphor.
