North Hollywood Breaks Ground on 3-Mile Protected Bikeway

New bike lanes aim to improve safety and connectivity for cyclists of all ages and abilities.

Published on Mar. 10, 2026

After years of planning, construction has begun on a 3-mile protected bike lane project along Chandler Boulevard in North Hollywood. The Chandler Bicycle Connection will upgrade existing bike lanes by adding physical barriers like bollards to separate cyclists from vehicle traffic, creating a safer and more accessible route for riders of all skill levels.

Why it matters

The new protected bike lanes are designed to strengthen connections across the San Fernando Valley by linking neighborhoods to the North Hollywood Metro Station and the NoHo Arts District, making it easier and safer for residents to access public transit and local destinations without relying on cars.

The details

The project will convert the existing 5-foot-wide bike lanes along Chandler Boulevard into protected lanes by adding physical barriers. It will also feature 33 upgraded crosswalks, 15 bike signal intersections, and 35 bike crossings to improve safety and connectivity for cyclists.

  • Construction on the Chandler Bicycle Connection began in March 2026.
  • The protected bike lanes are expected to be completed over the next few years.
