The Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, home of the Academy Awards, announced plans to power the venue and surrounding facilities with on-site renewable energy starting in 2027. The multi-site clean energy deployment will include high-efficiency solar photovoltaic installations and battery energy storage systems to manage peak demand and support load stability during major live events.
Why it matters
As a global cultural institution that hosts high-profile awards shows and live entertainment, the Dolby Theatre's transition to renewable energy reflects a growing movement in the entertainment industry to reduce environmental impact while preserving operational excellence. The project is expected to serve as a model for sustainable live event production.
The details
The renewable energy infrastructure will also power the adjacent TCL Chinese Theatre and the entire Ovation mall and Loews Hollywood Hotel. The battery energy storage component of the project is expected to qualify for California's Self-Generation Incentive Program, supporting the state's broader strategy to accelerate distributed energy resources. Zero Impact Solutions, a California-based clean energy integrator, has been selected to design and deploy the distributed energy systems.
- The 2027 Oscars ceremony and all other events and concerts at the Dolby Theatre will be powered by on-site renewable energy.
- The clean energy systems will remain in place to serve the venues year-round after the initial 2027 implementation.
