Habitat Santa Barbara to Open ReStore in Downtown

New resale store will support local affordable housing efforts

Published on Feb. 23, 2026

Habitat for Humanity of Southern Santa Barbara County (Habitat Santa Barbara) has signed a lease agreement to open a new ReStore location in downtown Santa Barbara. The ReStore, a resale store run by Habitat affiliates, will collect community donations of gently used furniture, home decor, and building materials to sell to the public, with proceeds supporting Habitat Santa Barbara's local affordable housing initiatives.

Why it matters

The new ReStore location will provide a revenue stream to fund Habitat Santa Barbara's affordable housing efforts in the community, while also offering a convenient place for residents to donate and purchase discounted home goods. The previous ReStore location in Goleta closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, so this new downtown store will help restore this community resource.

The details

Habitat Santa Barbara previously operated a ReStore in Goleta from 2008 to 2020, but it closed during the pandemic. The new downtown Santa Barbara location at 400 State Street is scheduled to open in summer 2026. Over the next few months, Habitat will be preparing the store by building out fixtures, collecting donations, and hiring a small number of paid staff, while also activating volunteers to assist with these efforts.
