The report details how Valley Children's supports over 6,100 full-time equivalent jobs, invests more than $600 million annually in wages and spending, and produces $41 million in state and local tax revenue each year.
Why it matters
As a major employer and economic driver in the region, Valley Children's plays a crucial role in supporting families and strengthening local communities across Central California. The hospital system's significant economic footprint helps create more stability and opportunity for residents, in addition to providing critical healthcare services for children.
The details
The report found that for every $1 Valley Children's spends, it generates $1.69 in total economic activity locally. Fresno County, home to the system's anchor hospital, accounts for the largest share of its economic impact, with 75% of Valley Children's employees living in the county and generating $663 million in total economic activity. What they’re saying
“This report matters because a stronger community creates better conditions for children and their families. By creating more than 6,100 jobs, Valley Children's is helping families provide stability, and when communities are stronger, kids have better access to healthcare and a greater opportunity to grow and thrive. We are proud to contribute to that across Central California.”
— Todd Suntrapak, President and CEO of Valley Children's Healthcare
“Having 75% of all Valley Children's employees living in Fresno County is significant for us, because those are doctors, nurses, and professional staff who are making a good living at a good-paying job – and they are investing that into our community. Additionally, it's good to know as a parent that you can take your children to Valley Children's right across the river and get first-class medical care, and we should all be very thankful for that and never take Valley Children's for granted.”
— Jerry Dyer, Mayor of Fresno
“Valley Children's in Madera County is a source of pride and a great honor. It's a true game changer, not only for the care it provides to kids, but for the jobs and long-term careers it brings to our community. When we talk about attracting people to our county, we can also say that if you have kids, we have one of the top children's hospitals in the entire nation in our backyard.”
— Robert Poythress, Madera County Supervisor
What’s next
Valley Children's Healthcare plans to use the findings from this economic impact report to further advocate for increased funding and support from state and local governments to expand its services and facilities across the Central Valley.
