The Golden Age Foundation and Teens Against E-Waste, a student-run nonprofit, are hosting a free battery and e-waste recycling event on Saturday, March 14 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Amphitheater Parking Lot in Cypress, California. Residents can drop off old alkaline, lithium, and hearing aid batteries as well as a variety of household electronics like computers, TVs, and microwaves.

Why it matters

Proper disposal of batteries and e-waste is important for environmental protection and public safety, as improper recycling can lead to toxic chemicals leaching into the soil and groundwater. This event provides a convenient way for residents to responsibly get rid of these items.

The details

The recycling event will accept alkaline, lithium, and hearing aid batteries, which should be dropped off in separate plastic bags. Accepted e-waste items include computer monitors, TVs, laptops, DVD players, printers, radios, and other small household electronics. Mercury-containing equipment, light bulbs, and large appliances like refrigerators will not be accepted. Six student and four parent volunteers from Teens Against E-Waste will assist at the event, wearing yellow vests, while Golden Age Foundation volunteers will wear red vests.
