Track star Nikki Hiltz, an Aptos native, won the women's 1,500-meter race at the 2026 USATF Indoor Championships in Staten Island, New York. This was Hiltz's seventh straight USATF 1,500 title (four indoor and three outdoor) and 10th career USATF national title. Hiltz, a 2024 Olympian sponsored by lululemon, pounced on the leader late in the race to claim victory in 4 minutes, 11.34 seconds.

The details
Hiltz, who identifies as transgender and nonbinary, returned to New York a month after winning the Wanamaker Mile title at the 118th Millrose Games. In the 1,500-meter race, Hiltz pounced on the leader late and won in 4 minutes, 11.34 seconds. The race featured a slow start and fast finish, with Hiltz moving from 10th to fourth within the first 500 meters and maintaining the third or fourth position for the majority of the opening 1,100 meters. Hiltz stumbled a bit after getting tangled with Emily Mackay of New Balance midway through the race but recovered well.
