After being closed for about a year, The Haute Enchilada (7902 Moss Landing Road, hauteenchilada.com) is reopening on Thursday. It will serve customers this coming Thursday, Friday and Saturday with a menu offering light bites and drinks. After that, hours and days open will fluctuate, as The Haute Enchilada hosts private groups as well.
Why it matters
The Haute Enchilada is a long-standing café and gallery in the Moss Landing community, and its reopening after a year-long closure will be welcomed by local residents and visitors. The limited hours and focus on private events signals a cautious approach as the business looks to rebuild its customer base.
The details
Owner Kim Solano said, "We ask customers to join our mailing list for weekly updates. We will be advertising exclusively to those on the mailing list. Recipients will become part of our private club membership." The Haute Enchilada will be open Thursday through Saturday, with plans to host private groups on other days.

The takeaway
The Haute Enchilada's cautious reopening approach, with limited public hours and a focus on private events, reflects the challenges many small businesses have faced during the pandemic. However, the café's loyal following and unique community-focused model suggest it may be able to weather the storm and eventually return to its former prominence in Moss Landing.
