As spring recruiting heats up, the Arizona Wildcats football program is in a strong position to land commitments from several top prospects across the western United States. The team currently has two pledges locked in and is the frontrunner for a number of highly touted recruits from Texas, California, and Colorado who have official visits scheduled.
Why it matters
Securing these high-profile commitments would be a major boost for the Wildcats' recruiting efforts and help build momentum heading into the 2026 season. Landing talent from outside of Arizona, particularly in talent-rich states like Texas, is crucial for the program to compete at the highest level in the Pac-12 conference.
The details
The Wildcats have received commitments from speed receiver Trey Smith and safety Jalani Culpepper. They are also the leaders for several other top prospects, including linebacker Aston Whiteside, running back Wayne Shanks, defensive tackle Khyren Haywood, and linebacker Bryce Breeden - all from Texas. Arizona is also in strong position for wide receiver Ty Johnson, safety Dillon Davis, and quarterback Caden Jones. Additionally, the Wildcats are involved with in-state standouts Jai Jones and Benjamin Lowther, as well as edge rusher Troy Mailo from Colorado and defensive lineman Tevita Nonu from Washington.
- Spring recruiting is starting to heat up.

The players
Trey Smith
A speed receiver who is one of the fastest in the region and has already committed to Arizona.
Jalani Culpepper
A safety who has also pledged to the Wildcats.
Aston Whiteside
A highly touted linebacker from Texas who will officially visit Arizona on May 29.
Wayne Shanks
One of the fastest running backs in Texas, he will also officially visit Arizona on May 29.
Khyren Haywood
An athletic defensive tackle from Texas with over 40 tackles for loss the last two seasons, he will officially visit Tucson on June 19.
What they’re saying
“I think they have a shot at all four of those kids. TCU is heavily involved with Whiteside and Breeden as well but Arizona is right there.”
— Sam Spiegelman, Rivals.com national analyst (on3.com)
“Shanks really likes Arizona a lot and Haywood is really high on them as well. Arizona is making a strong push in Texas and getting all four on campus for official visits is big.”

What’s next
The Wildcats will host several of their top targets for official visits in May and June as they look to secure additional commitments and build momentum heading into the 2026 season.
