The Center for Biological Diversity, the University of Arizona's Women & Gender Student Space, and the College of Public Health Southwest Center on Resilience for Climate Change and Health will be giving away sexual and reproductive health emergency preparedness kits on the University of Arizona campus on Friday, March 6. The kits include condoms, emergency contraception, period products, pregnancy tests, and lubricant.
Why it matters
Extreme weather events can disrupt access to essential sexual and reproductive health services and supplies, increasing the risk of unintended pregnancy and making it harder for vulnerable people to recover. This giveaway aims to highlight the need for people and communities to consider these kinds of items in their emergency preparedness plans.
The details
The free kits are being distributed to highlight the importance of preparing for sexual and reproductive health disruptions during extreme weather events. Each kit includes condoms, emergency contraception, period products, pregnancy tests and lubricant.
- The kit giveaway will take place on Friday, March 6, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The players
Center for Biological Diversity
A non-profit organization that works to protect endangered species and wild places.
University of Arizona's Women & Gender Student Space
A student organization that advocates for women's and gender issues on the University of Arizona campus.
College of Public Health Southwest Center on Resilience for Climate Change and Health
A research center at the University of Arizona that studies the health impacts of climate change.
What they’re saying
“Flash floods and wildfires can make it impossible to access family planning and period supplies, but most people leave these items out of their emergency preparedness kits. The kits help make sure people won't have to scramble to care for their sexual health during climate-fueled severe weather emergencies.”
— Kelley Dennings, Campaigner, Center for Biological Diversity
What’s next
The organizers hope that this event will raise awareness about the importance of including sexual and reproductive health supplies in emergency preparedness kits, and encourage more people and communities to do so.
The takeaway
This giveaway highlights the disproportionate impact of climate change on women and gender diverse people, and the need for emergency preparedness plans to consider sexual and reproductive health needs in addition to other supplies.
