The University of Washington football program has received a commitment from 3-star edge rusher Matamatagi Uiagalelei, the younger brother of former Husky defensive tackle Ta'ita'i Uiagalelei. Matamatagi Uiagalelei, a 6-foot-3, 240-pound prospect from Mater Dei High School in Southern California, had previously been recruited by UW assistant coaches Jordan Paopao and Jason Kaufusi when they were on staff at Arizona. He is the seventh 2027 commit for the Huskies.

Why it matters

The Uiagalelei name is well known in college football, with Matamatagi being the younger cousin of Oregon edge rusher Matayo Uiagalelei and former Clemson, Oregon State and Florida State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei. Landing the younger Uiagalelei brother continues to bolster the Huskies' recruiting efforts in Southern California and adds another talented player to their 2027 class.

The details

Matamatagi Uiagalelei had 28 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 3 sacks for an 8-3 Mater Dei team in 2025. The year prior, while playing with current Husky QB Dash Beierly, former UW wideout Marcus Harris and offensive tackle Kodi Greene, he had 18 tackles, 5 tackles for loss and 3 sacks for a 13-0 Mater Dei squad. He is considered the No. 80 recruit in California and the No. 83 defensive lineman by 247Sports.
