The desperate search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie entered its 13th day on Friday, as investigators say they have fielded thousands of tips after releasing surveillance footage from her doorbell camera but appear no closer to solving the case. The FBI has now increased its reward to $100,000 for information leading to Guthrie's location and has provided a new description of the suspect based on forensic evidence.
Why it matters
The case has garnered national attention as the mother of Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie remains missing. Authorities are facing growing pressure to find answers, especially as the investigation has yielded few concrete leads so far despite the influx of tips from the public.
The details
The FBI released a new description of the suspect as approximately 5'9" to 5'10" tall with an average build. They also provided details about a black 25-liter 'Ozark Trail Hiker Pack' backpack the suspect is believed to have been wearing. Investigators have recovered several items of evidence, including gloves, that are being analyzed. The Pima County Sheriff's Department has expanded its call for video footage from neighbors within a 2-mile radius of Guthrie's home.
- On January 31, Nancy Guthrie was last seen around 9:45 p.m. when she was dropped off at her home by family members after dinner.
- Guthrie was reported missing around noon the next day, February 1, after she did not show up at a friend's house to watch an online church service.
