Nominees include a basketball player who broke her school's career rebounding record, a soccer player who scored multiple goals in lopsided wins, and more standout student-athletes across various sports.

The details

Nominees for boys' and girls' athletes of the week are based on performances in AIA-sanctioned sports. Voters can select the top pick in each poll, with voting closing at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12. Winners will be announced the next day on azcentral.com and in The Republic on Saturday, Feb. 14.

Bella Abt

A senior basketball player at Prescott High School who broke the school record for most career rebounds with 1,075 after recording 25 points, 10 rebounds, and seven steals in a 65-12 win over Kingman Lee Williams on February 3.

Naomi Burge

A freshman soccer player at Glendale Prep Academy who had seven goals and one assist in a 13-0 win over Goodyear Trivium Prep on February 2, and four goals and two assists in a 6-0 win over Great Hearts Anthem on February 3.

Leyla Lugo

A sophomore soccer player at Yuma Cibola High School who had three goals in an 8-0 win over Yuma Kofa on February 3 and two goals in a 2-1 win over Gila Ridge on February 6.

Abraham Andrade

A senior basketball player at Parker High School who had 41 points, 18 rebounds, and seven steals in an 81-41 win over Surprise Highland Prep on February 5.

Cade Garcia

A freshman soccer player at Yuma Catholic High School who scored five goals and recorded two assists in a 12-0 win over Mohave Valley River Valley on February 3.
