This 3,500-square-foot contemporary home in Prescott Valley was carefully oriented to celebrate sweeping views, passive solar design and seamless indoor-outdoor living. Set high above Prescott Valley with a clear view of Thumb Butte and Granite Mountain, this contemporary retreat was shaped around a single intention: to make the landscape the star of the show.
Why it matters
The home's design was driven entirely by the property's extraordinary setting, showcasing panoramic views and embracing the natural connection to nearby hiking trails. This approach highlights how thoughtful architecture can enhance the experience of a stunning natural landscape.
The details
Completed in 2024 by Tate Studio Architects, the home features generous glazing including corner butt-glazed windows, full-width pocket sliding doors and recessed channel-set windows that blur the sense of boundary between indoors and outdoors. The great room and kitchen form the primary gathering space, with a 'compress-and-release' strategy that transitions from a lower entry to soaring pitched ceilings. Material selection, including natural stone, wood ceilings and warm wood cabinetry, gives the home a modern yet warm character that echoes the surrounding landscape.
