Upon arrival, they found a woman and child behind a locked wrought-iron gate in a backyard. Using a Halligan tool, officers were able to force open the gate and safely remove the woman and child. The suspect was then observed inside the apartment holding a shotgun. After the suspect refused to comply with officers' commands to drop the weapon, a standoff ensued. During the hour-long standoff, the suspect fired multiple rounds, damaging and disabling a law enforcement drone. Officers returned fire, and the Phoenix police Special Assignments Unit deployed a second drone to locate the suspect, who was found with a gunshot injury. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
