Phoenix Freeways See Weekend Closures for Roadwork

Eastbound Loop 202 and ramps to close, along with other restrictions in the area

Published on Feb. 27, 2026

The Arizona Department of Transportation has announced several freeway closures and ramp restrictions in the Phoenix metro area this weekend as part of ongoing roadwork and construction projects. The eastbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway will be closed between Lindsay Road and Val Vista Drive in Gilbert from Friday night to Sunday noon, while the eastbound Loop 101 ramp to southbound State Route 51 in north Phoenix will also be shut down for lane striping work.

Why it matters

These closures and restrictions are necessary for ADOT to continue widening and improving key freeways in the growing Phoenix region, but they will cause disruptions and delays for drivers trying to navigate the area this weekend. Providing advance notice allows residents and commuters to plan alternate routes.

The details

The eastbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway and related ramps will be closed between Lindsay Road and Val Vista Drive in Gilbert from 10 p.m. Friday to noon Sunday for work on an ongoing widening project. ADOT is advising drivers to consider using US 60, Pecos Road or Germann Road to bypass this closure. Additionally, the eastbound Loop 101 Pima Freeway ramp to southbound State Route 51 in north Phoenix will be closed from 5 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday so crews can complete lane striping work. Several other nearby ramps will also be closed during this time. Further west, the exits to 75th Avenue in both directions of the Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway in Glendale will be closed from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday for widening project work, and 75th Avenue itself will be closed in both directions near the freeway.
