No. 21 Pima splits doubleheader with Mesa to open ACCAC play

The Pima Community College baseball team split its first two ACCAC games of the season on Saturday against Mesa at the West Campus Aztec Field. The No. 22 Aztecs lost the first game but took control to win the second game against the Thunderbirds. Sophomore Leon Cereceres went 5 for 8 with three runs in the two games.

This doubleheader marked the start of conference play for Pima, who is ranked No. 21 in the nation. The split result keeps them in contention early in the ACCAC season, as they look to build on an 8-3 overall record so far.
The details
In the first game, Pima built a 4-0 lead but Mesa scored five unanswered runs to win 5-4 in 10 innings. Cereceres had four hits and scored twice for the Aztecs. In the second game, Pima broke open a close game with a six-run fourth inning to win 9-1 in seven innings. Freshman Cooper Kruk hit a leadoff home run and drove in two runs, while Adriel Figueroa-Brito had three hits and an RBI.
