Arkansas freshman Darius Acuff Jr. is coming off a historic 49-point performance against Alabama, and Missouri will have its hands full trying to contain the 6-foot-3 guard on Saturday. Missouri head coach Dennis Gates has praised Acuff's advanced scoring ability, and the Tigers plan to split the defensive assignment between guards T.O. Barrett and Anthony Robinson II in an effort to limit Acuff's production.
Why it matters
Acuff has been one of the top scorers in the SEC this season, averaging 22.3 points per game on 50.9% shooting. Limiting his output will be crucial for Missouri to have a chance at winning this key conference matchup.
The details
Acuff scored 49 points in Arkansas' double-overtime loss to Alabama, the most by an SEC freshman since 2015. Missouri's defensive plan will rely on the defensive intensity and speed of Barrett and Robinson to try and force Acuff into an off-shooting night. While they may not be able to completely shut down Acuff, the Tigers hope the fresh legs of the two guards can at least minimize the damage.

What they’re saying
“During the process of high school, you can see how advanced he was in being able to penalize defenses... whether it's coming off ball screens, getting to the rim, shooting a mid range, knocking down threes, (or in) transition.”
— Dennis Gates, Missouri Head Coach
“He's one of the top point guards in the country, if not the best. He'll have a great career beyond just college, but right now, you see a young man playing his best basketball, leading this team and being able to take just what the defense gives him.”
— Dennis Gates, Missouri Head Coach
“He's doing things that allow his team to win. He's one of our highest-graded defender defenders in the last couple games. You can impact the game a certain way, and that kid is impacting the game. He's impacting wins.”
— Dennis Gates, Missouri Head Coach
