Texas A&M basketball battled until the final seconds against Alabama in Tuscaloosa, but the Aggies eventually dropped their second Southeastern Conference contest of the campaign, 100-97, at Coleman Coliseum on Wednesday night. The closely-contested battle between the two projected potential March Madness squads was tied at the half, but the Aggies came out of the second period firing on all cylinders to establish a lead over the Crimson Tide. Alabama quickly snatched the lead back, however, and held on for the victory despite an impressive shooting performance from Texas A&M.
Why it matters
This loss marks another devastating close SEC road defeat for Texas A&M, but the Aggies have continued to impress with their shooting ability, especially from range. Under first-year head coach Bucky McMillan, Texas A&M has brought a flashy, explosive offense to Aggieland and is playing at an extremely high level, showcasing signs of a team determined to reach the postseason for the fourth consecutive season.
The details
Texas A&M shot 49% from the field and 42% from beyond the arc against the Tide, but inaccuracy from the free-throw line and falling behind Nate Oats' squad in the rebound category (44-36) led to the Aggies' downfall. Graduate forward Rashaun Agee led Texas A&M with 21 points, followed by guard Marcus Hill with 18 points. The Aggies also saw continued production from the bench with 32 points in the efforts against the Tide.
