The first day of the Panini Senior Bowl was Tuesday, and it was a somewhat underwhelming day of action. However, the second practice had a lot more action, and the Dolphins were able to identify some standout prospects that could help address their needs on the offensive line and edge rusher positions.
Why it matters
The Senior Bowl is an important event for the Dolphins as they look to improve their roster through the draft. By identifying standout performers, the Dolphins can get a better sense of which players might be a good fit for their team and where they should focus their draft resources.
The details
The Dolphins paid extra attention to the trenches, specifically looking at edge rushers and offensive linemen. Some of the standout performers included Gabe Jacas (Illinois, Edge), T.J. Parker (Clemson, Edge), Tyreak Sapp (Florida, Edge), Jalen Farmer (Kentucky, Offensive Guard), Gennings Dunker (Iowa, Offensive Line), and Ted Hurst (Georgia State, WR). The Dolphins also noted some other players who had strong performances, including Zion Young (Missouri, Edge), Zane Durant (Penn State, IDL), Sam Roush (Stanford, TE), and Gage Casey (Boise State, OT).
- The first practice went about 50 minutes before pads made contact against other pads on January 28, 2026.
The players
Gabe Jacas
An Illinois edge rusher who was probably the best player at the event on Tuesday. He was a technician on tape, winning with speed and good hand usage, and those traits translated well into team periods and 1-on-1s.
T.J. Parker
A Clemson edge rusher who came into the season as a potential top-10 pick but didn't quite have the season he was hoping for. However, he came to Mobile and had a nice first day, with his length being overwhelming for a lot of the tackles at the event.
Tyreak Sapp
A Florida edge rusher who dropped out of the Shrine Bowl to attend the Senior Bowl. He was the best Florida player on the field on Tuesday, showing good power and an NFL-ready build.
Jalen Farmer
A Kentucky offensive guard who stood out more than anyone in 1-on-1 drills, being incredibly strong and having great hand usage.
Gennings Dunker
An Iowa offensive lineman who outperformed expectations on Tuesday, playing both tackle and guard and looking good at both spots.
What’s next
The Dolphins will continue to evaluate players throughout the rest of the week at the Senior Bowl, with a focus on the secondary players on Wednesday.
The takeaway
The Dolphins were able to identify several promising prospects on the first day of Senior Bowl practices, particularly in the trenches, which aligns with their stated goal of building through the offensive and defensive lines. These standout performers could be potential targets for the Dolphins in the upcoming draft as they look to address their needs at edge rusher and on the offensive line.
