Madison Academy will officially retire the iconic No. 22 jersey of longtime former baseball coach Mike Good during a special on-field ceremony on Friday, April 3. Good spent 24 volunteer years coaching baseball at Madison Academy, 14 of those as head coach where he amassed a record of 406-205, four state championships including three consecutive titles from 2014-2016, and two state runner-up finishes.

Why it matters

Coach Good built Madison Academy's baseball program into one of the top 40 high school programs in Alabama, winning 30 or more games seven times and 14 consecutive area championships. Retiring his jersey number is a fitting tribute to his decades of service and success with the Mustangs.

The details

Good is currently an assistant coach for the Sparkman High baseball team, but his tenure at Madison Academy included 24 volunteer years, 14 as head coach. During that time, his teams won four state championships, including three straight from 2014-2016, and were state runners-up twice. Good's teams won 30 or more games seven times and lost just three area games during a 14-year stretch of area championships.

  • The jersey retirement ceremony will take place on Friday, April 3 at 5:15 p.m. prior to Madison Academy's game against Guntersville.
  • Good retired as head coach after the 2016 season, going out on top with a state championship.
