The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) reported that crews are nearing completion of major restoration work following a massive winter storm, with only 8 customer delivery points remaining out of service as of Tuesday evening. Working both from the air and on the ground, TVA crews are focusing on restoring the last remaining high-voltage transmission lines in North Mississippi, facing obstacles like fallen trees, deep snow, icy roads, and frigid temperatures.
Why it matters
The severe winter storm caused widespread power outages across North Mississippi, disrupting service to homes and businesses. TVA's restoration efforts are critical to quickly returning electricity to the affected communities and minimizing the impact of the storm.
The details
TVA crews have been working around the clock, deploying helicopters and drones to reach areas cut off by snow and ice, in order to assess storm damage and repair transmission lines. Beyond power restoration, TVA teams have also been providing critical support to affected communities, delivering supplies like bottled water, generators, and bedding. Once all connections to local power companies are restored, TVA plans to shift focus to repairing non-critical damage to reinforce system reliability.

The takeaway
TVA's swift and coordinated restoration efforts, including the use of advanced technologies and logistical support, have been crucial in quickly returning power to the affected communities in North Mississippi following the severe winter storm.
