Nebraska baseball heads to Auburn, Alabama to take on the No. 7 ranked Tigers in a three-game non-conference series. The Huskers are coming off a tough weekend in Texas where they went 1-2, but look to rebound against the talented Auburn squad. The Tigers boast a deep lineup led by a trio of star sophomores and a dominant pitching rotation that has gotten off to a strong start this season.
Why it matters
This series represents Nebraska's biggest non-conference challenge of the season as they look to build their NCAA Tournament resume. Auburn is a perennial SEC power and a team that reached the Super Regionals last year. A series win or even a single victory against the Tigers would be a major boost for the Huskers as they prepare for Big Ten play.
The details
Nebraska will send out its weekend rotation of Ty Horn, Carson Jasa, and Gavin Blachowicz to face off against Auburn's starters of Jake Marciano, Jackson Sanders, and Alex Petrovic. The Tigers' pitching staff has been dominant so far, posting a 2.79 team ERA through the first two weekends. Offensively, Auburn is led by a trio of standout sophomores in Chris Rembert, Chase Fralick, and Bub Terrell, all of whom earned Freshman All-America honors last season. The Huskers will need to find a way to slow down this potent Auburn lineup if they hope to pull off the upset.
- The three-game series takes place from February 27-March 1, with games on Friday at 6pm CST, Saturday at 2pm CST, and Sunday at 1pm CST.
The players
Chris Rembert
Sophomore infielder/outfielder who earned Freshman All-America honors in 2025 after hitting .344 with 10 home runs and 46 RBIs.
Chase Fralick
Sophomore catcher/infielder who joined Rembert on the Freshman All-America team in 2025 after hitting .335 with 17 doubles.
Bub Terrell
Sophomore outfielder/infielder who was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2025 after hitting .300 with 61 hits.
Jake Marciano
Sophomore left-handed transfer from Virginia Tech who has emerged as Auburn's Friday starter, posting a 0.82 ERA with 20 strikeouts and 0 walks through two starts.
Butch Thompson
11th-year head coach at Auburn who has led the Tigers to 2 College World Series appearances and 2 Super Regional berths.
What they’re saying
“We must be ready to compete at the highest level against a very talented Auburn team. This is a great opportunity for our program to measure ourselves against one of the top teams in the country.”
— Will Bolt, Nebraska Head Coach (Huskers.com)
What’s next
After the series against Auburn, Nebraska will return home to face Creighton on March 3 before opening Big Ten play against Michigan State on March 6.
The takeaway
This series against No. 7 Auburn represents a major non-conference challenge for Nebraska as they look to build their NCAA Tournament resume. While the Tigers are heavily favored, the Huskers have already proven they can compete with top-tier competition. A series win or even a single victory would be a huge boost for Nebraska as they prepare to enter Big Ten play.
