The Auburn Tigers found themselves down at halftime against the Texas Longhorns, but they were able to make key adjustments at the break and come back to earn an 88-82 victory. The Longhorns shot the ball well in the first half, particularly from three-point range, but Auburn was able to slow them down in the second half. Led by strong performances from Keyshawn Hall and Kevin Overton, the Tigers outscored Texas 54-40 in the final 20 minutes to secure the win.
Why it matters
This victory extends Auburn's winning streak to four games in SEC play, keeping them in contention in the highly competitive conference. The Tigers' ability to make halftime adjustments and respond to a slow start shows their resilience and poise, which will be important as they prepare to face a tough road test against Tennessee next.
The details
Auburn trailed 42-34 at halftime, as the Longhorns shot the ball extremely well, particularly from three-point range. Head coach Steven Pearl admitted that part of the game plan was to allow Texas' Dailyn Swain, who shoots just 27% from three on the season, to take open threes, but Swain made 4 of them in the first half. In the second half, the Tigers were able to slow down the Longhorns' perimeter attack, and they also did a better job of getting the ball to their leading scorer, Keyshawn Hall, who scored 25 of his 31 points after the break. Kevin Overton also had a big second half, scoring 19 of his 25 points in the final 20 minutes.

What they’re saying
“Not to be cocky, but I feel like I'm the best player in college. I just come out, keep working, and keep going at it to try to just stay consistent in what I do.”
— Keyshawn Hall
“Dailyn Swain was, I think, 3-for-3 or 4-for-4 at half (from the three-point line), and you know, he shoots 27% from three. Those are the shots we wanted them to take, threes... if you told me before the game that they were going to make twelve threes, I'm not sure if we win that game.”
— Steven Pearl, Auburn Head Coach
What’s next
The Tigers will now hit the road to take on the Tennessee Volunteers, who are known for having a very hostile home environment. Auburn will look to extend their winning streak to five games against the Vols.
The takeaway
Auburn's ability to make key halftime adjustments and get strong second-half performances from their top players shows the team's resilience and poise. This win keeps the Tigers in contention in the competitive SEC, and they will need to carry this momentum into their upcoming road test against Tennessee.
