According to Sheriff Joe Hamilton, two deputies responded to a call about a stolen vehicle on County Road 656 near Anderson. When they arrived, the suspect attempted to flee in the vehicle and tried to run over the deputies, prompting them to open fire. A vehicle pursuit then ensued, ending when the suspect's vehicle overturned in a ditch on Highway 207 north of Anderson. The suspect then fled on foot into a nearby large pond and did not resurface. A dive team later recovered the suspect's body from the pond.
