King Tech Students Help Hope Community Resources Clients Get Ready for Formal Dance

Cosmetology students volunteer to do hair and makeup for clients ahead of 'Night to Shine' event.

Published on Feb. 14, 2026

Before a formal dance Friday, clients of Hope Community Resources received help preparing their hair and makeup from a group of volunteers from King Tech High School's cosmetology program. The students curled hair, applied makeup, and helped the Hope clients get ready for the 'Night to Shine' dance, an annual event organized by the Tim Tebow Foundation and hosted by ChangePoint Church in Anchorage.

Why it matters

The partnership between King Tech and Hope Community Resources provides an opportunity for cosmetology students to gain hands-on experience in serving the community, while also helping ensure the Hope clients feel confident and beautiful at the formal dance event.

The details

Eleven students from King Tech High School's cosmetology program volunteered their time to curl hair, apply makeup, and help the clients of Hope Community Resources get ready for the 'Night to Shine' formal dance. The students spent a couple hours before the dance event providing these services in the activity rooms at Hope's Discovery Center. This is an annual collaboration that began a few years ago when Hope's director of community engagement, Jennifer Moore, mentioned to the cosmetology instructor, Barb Emery, that the Hope staff could use help getting the clients ready for the dance.
