The Rise of Passkeys Are a Step Toward a Passwordless Future

Are you tired of forgetting your passwords? Passkeys make logins easier, safer, and much less frustrating.

Our passwords are the keys to everything online and while it can be difficult to remember them all, weak or reused passwords can make it easy for hackers to access your personal information. While holidays like World Password Day on May 1 remind us how important it is to choose secure passwords, we may not have to worry about remembering P@Ssw0rd123!# because passwords are on their way out, and passkeys are in.

Once a buzzword, passkeys have become a popular method for secure and seamless online authentication. Developed by the FIDO Alliance, passkeys replace traditional passwords with cryptographic security, and these cryptographic keys are stored on a user’s device, eliminating the need to remember complex passwords or struggle with resets when we inevitably forget.

Major tech companies like Google, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, and PayPal, have adopted passkeys, enabling users to log in to their accounts using biometric authentication or device PINs. Not only are they convenient but they enhance security by making phishing attacks and credential theft more difficult.

According to FIDO Alliance, as of early 2025, over one billion people have activated at least one passkey and consumer awareness of the technology has increased from 39% to 57% in just two years. If you’re looking to adopt passkeys, you need to ensure that your device supports passkey technology, and it’s recommended that you start with your frequently used accounts. While the transition may take time, embracing passkeys now can pave the way for a more secure and convenient online experience in the future.
