Where did sci-fi holidays come from?

Thank you, George Lucas, J.R.R. Tolkien, Marvel Comics… the list could go on. We’re eternally grateful to them for giving us some of the best sci-fi entertainment the world has ever seen.
Think about this. An exciting imaginary world, larger than life heroes, themes that challenge reality and stretch the imagination – isn’t this better than real life! The biggest and the best is Star Wars Day on May 4. The first organized celebration took place in Toronto, Canada, at the Toronto Underground Cinema in 2011. Later Disney purchased Lucasfilm and the Star Wars franchise along with it. The holiday has been officially observed at Disneyland and Walt Disney World ever since. And if hobbits, goblins, and dragons are your thing, there’s National Hobbit Day on September 22. National Comic Book Day on September 25 unites comic lovers who are always looking for crazy ways to celebrate their love for comics.
