World Vitiligo Day

World Vitiligo Day takes place on June 25. Vitiligo is a skin disorder that affects 1% to 2 % of the population. It is a lifelong disorder that causes discoloration of patches in different areas of the body as well as a total loss of skin color. Other symptoms include hair turning prematurely gray or white and eyelashes or eyebrows losing color and turning white. World Vitiligo Day was first celebrated in 2011 and is also known as Vitiligo Awareness Day’ or Vitiligo Purple Fun Day, as purple is the official color representing the condition.

National Relationship Equity Day

National Relationship Equity Day is annually observed on June 24. This day seeks to address relationship issues, especially ones that arise due to gender roles. The concept of assigning gender roles in relationships is becoming disturbing. This day aims to spell out the importance of suspension of the popular gender role phenomenon and adopting the more welcoming — albeit unpopular — gender equity concept. The day is also about striking a balance between relationship roles and the freedom to exercise the individual skills of each couple to improve the relationship and their personal lives without restrictions.

Iceland Independence Day

Iceland Independence Day is celebrated every year on June 17. It is a special holiday that commemorates the foundation of the Republic of Iceland in 1944 when the country became a sovereign republic. Iceland had ties with Denmark for centuries and that came to an end on the birthday of Jón Sigurðsson. He is a figure of Icelandic culture and was the leader of the 19th-century Icelandic independence movement.

To mark Independence Day, bells ring in harmony across the capital city of Reykjavík. The day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the country’s past heroes to ensure freedom for future generations. It is an occasion marked by great joy and national pride. People paint the national flag on their faces and participate in the parade. Music has a great significance, and there are always musical shows on the day.
