This Labor Day contest can work wonders for you

Live your dream on someone else's dime. It's a Labor Day deal to get caffeinated about.

“So, I was sitting in my cubicle today and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So, that means that every single day that you see me, that’s the worst day of my life.”
        — Peter (“Office Space”)

Sound familiar? The 1999 cult film classic Office Space perfectly defined the dread of a dead-end job. Twenty years later, despite fewer paper jams, millions of workers still arrive to work every day yearning to quit and start chasing some dreams.

At least temporarily.

The company seeks applicants who have“awesome STōK-bbatical dreams.” The prize package includes up to $20,000 in paid travel expenses plus a $10,000 stipend.

The makers of STōK cold-brew coffees have a perfect suggestion this 2019 Labor Day: Take a STōK-bbatical. The idea of work sabbaticals — long-term breaks from your day job — has inspired employees all over the world to explore the possibility of pursuing a lifelong passion.

Rock climbing? Sailing? Visiting Antarctica? (Hint: go in the summer.)

So how does one finance such an adventure now that you’ve joined the ranks of the (temporarily) unemployed? STōK has a plan. The company will give three workers $30,000 each in order to make their dreams happen over a period of two to four weeks.

A new Labor Day tradition

“STōK believes in helping people go after what they want, which is why we’re ponying up the money for fans to temporarily redefine their nine-to-five job,” says STōK Marketing Director Lindsey Morgan. “We’re thrilled to begin the application process and help STōK fans take some time off to pursue what they’re truly passionate about.”

Contestants enter by writing a maximum 300-word email specifying “what you do now for a living and what you wish you were doing.” Applications, which are due by Labor Day, include a humorous fill-in-the-blank letter so winners can inform their bosses they’ll be taking a temporary STōK-bbatical. (Let’s hope your boss understands the humor.)
