Luxurious Labor Day hotel deals. Just because.

Who needs a reason to travel?

Here at National Today we pride ourselves on finding clever ways to celebrate even the most obscure calendar holidays. (Not to brag, but we put the sizzle back into National Laundry Day.) We also know that others feel the same way. That’s why we’re not above paying tribute to stunning holiday innovations when they cross our always festive desks.

Well, look what just crossed.

Hotwire chose their “Quickie” spots based on a recent survey ranking U.S. cities on value, convenience and entertainment options.

The fine folks at Hotwire, a leading discount travel site, have managed to pull off the elusive Double Holiday Combination — an extraordinary event in the highly competitive holiday-tracking world.

How?

Hotwire’s planning a Labor Day weekend (August 30-September 2) luxury hotel sale — intentionally set to start on the quirky National Just Because Day (August 27). Translation: You deserve a spontaneous vacation, well, for no good reason. It’s the perfect holiday blend!

See what they did there?

The event features four- and five-star hotels in six of America’s top cities at a jaw-dropping $59 per night (for the first two nights) — when booked by August 29 — or until all rooms sell out. Average discounts for the appropriately named “Quickie Getaway Sale” range from 69-81% when compared to other online travel sites for similar hotel stays.

Destinations include New York, L.A., Chicago, Miami, Washington D.C. and San Diego.

“We hear loud and clear from travelers that they’re looking to get away more often,” says Hotwire President Neha Parikh. “People are embracing the idea that they can simply decide at the last minute to travel somewhere amazing that same weekend — no reason needed!”

L.A.bor Day

Hotwire chose their “Quickie” spots based on a recent survey ranking U.S. cities on value, convenience and entertainment options.

“L.A.’s hotel scene is hot,” says Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board VP Jamie Foley. “Visitors can use their [hotel] savings towards the many quintessential activities L.A. has to offer over Labor Day. That includes rooftop movie screenings, concerts at the iconic Hollywood Bowl, LA Fleet Week and the ‘Soul of a Nation’ exhibit at The Broad [Museum].”

The event features four- and five-star hotels in some of America’s top cities at a jaw-dropping $59 a night (for the first two nights) — when booked by August 29 — or until all rooms sell out.

Another Hotwire survey showed 90% of Americans prefer short getaways (three nights or less) over a longer vacation.

“We love that because we know that even short, quickie trips can have a big impact,” says Parikh. “We wanted to do something a little crazy to wow our customers and really make more of these kinds of unexpected trips possible.”
