History of National Hunter Day

The last name Hunter was popular from 1840 to 1920 in countries such as the U.S., the U.K., Canada, and Scotland. The U.S. had a large concentration of families with this surname. In the 2000s, Hunter became a trendy first name, and it remains popular until today, mainly as a boy’s name, although it can be used for girls too.

Hunter Schafer, for instance, was born in 1998 and is most known for playing the character Jules in the hit HBO television teen drama, “Euphoria.” The show premiered in 2019 and was Schafer’s acting debut. Alongside her acting role, Schafer has also co-written an episode and served as a co-executive producer. Her character, Jules Vaughn, begins the series as the new girl in town who catches show narrator Rue’s attention prior to their junior year in high school. She comes across as a cheerful, sweet, and eclectic person with a creative flair but as the series progresses, the audience also gets to see her impulsivity, vulnerability, and other flaws.

Apart from her appearance on “Euphoria,” Schafer has been a very vocal activist, most notably against the North Carolina Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act, also known as House Bill 2 or HB 2, which aimed to compel schools and government facilities in the state to only allow “people of the corresponding sex as listed on their birth certificate” to use single-gender restrooms. Schafer has also modeled for several fashion labels like Prada, Dior, Rick Owens, Tommy Hilfiger, and Marc Jacobs, among others.
