It’s National Dress Up Your Pet Day on January 14, and we want you go to all out. Celebrate by dressing up your furry family member in comfortable pet clothing — maybe even get matching outfits, if you want to get crazy. If it were any normal day, people would be staring at you at your dog in the street. However, on National Dress Up Your Pet Day, matching outfits are not only accepted, but also encouraged! Who’s the angel responsible for this holiday? National Dress Up Your Pet Day was started in 2009 by celebrity pet lifestyle expert and animal behaviorist Colleen Paige. It celebrates pets and helps to support the pet fashion community. The chance only comes once a year to wow the neighbors and to unleash the inner diva of your favorite pooch, so make sure your dog is dressed for the occasion!
There are many things that differentiate humans from the rest of the animal kingdom, but one of the more unusual traits is our longstanding tendency to keep other animals as pets. While there have been a handful of examples of other animals keeping pets (Koko the gorilla and her cats are a commonly-cited instance), we're the only species where it's a common occurrence. In fact, Gallup states that six in ten Americans are current pet owners. It only makes sense to commemorate something that's so important to so many people, so on Feb. 20, we celebrate our pets with Love Your Pet Day!
February 22 is Walking the Dog Day! This day combines two of the most happy-making things we have in this life: dogs and exercise. Humans love walking with their four-legged friends, and pooches love their strolls with their people. So grab your walking shoes, a leash, and some treats for the road, and take your favorite pooch for a stroll to celebrate Walking the Dog Day!
No one quiet knows the origin of this wagtastic holiday, but we all know that dogs love these treats. Created in the mid-19th century by American James Spratt, the cake-like biscuit comprised of meat, grains and vegetables have evolved over time, but are still dogs favorite reward. So lets raise a baked treat to International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day (Feb. 23) and our companions who love them.
Prepare yourselves for an overdose of cuteness, because March 23rd is National Puppy Day! Established in 2006, National Puppy Day is a paw-some day for all dog enthusiasts to celebrate puppies' unconditional love and fawn over the undeniable cute furballs that bring so much joy into this world. While we're all softies when it comes to cute photos of our four-legged friends, National Puppy Day is also designed to raise awareness about puppy mills and help prospective pet owners consider adoption. Sit back, relax, and indulge in the endless stream of adorable puppy photos, but keep in mind that today might be the best excuse to bring home a fluffy canine as your next best friend!
Did you know today is Respect Your Cat Day? It's the day to celebrate you and your feline bestie! Your kitty pal has been there when you were happy—your kitty pal has been there when you were sad. Your kitty has, and always will, be there for you. So, this March 28, acknowledge all the hard work your cat puts into being your loyal companion.
