International Mind-Body Wellness Day – January 3, 2025

January 3 is International Mind-Body Wellness Day, an opportunity to celebrate how a healthy mind and healthy emotions means a healthy body! The mind, body and soul connection plays an integral role in our overall health and well-being. Our emotions, purpose, spirituality, experiences, goals, beliefs, habits and actions all have an important impact on mind-body harmony and overall health. That is why we celebrate International Mind-Body Wellness Day at the start of each year, because nothing is more important than creating the best you possible, and what better time than the new year for a new you?

Bestselling author, TEDx speaker and mind body wellness expert, Jaya Jaya Myra knows the full power of harmonizing mind, body and soul, and its impact on physical health. Using only holistic strategies including purpose and mindfulness, she healed herself of fibromyalgia, anxiety and depression when allopathic medicine failed to help her. This led her to create The WELL Method and write The Soul of Purpose, looking at the direct connections between spirituality, purpose and health.

History of International Mind-Body Wellness Day

The concept of mind body wellness has been around for literally thousands of years, and there are plenty of ways that we can elevate our mind-body wellness and promote overall well-being. Everything from mindfulness, meditation, diet changes, spirituality, gratitude, mindset, purpose and even decor and colors can impact your mental, emotional and physical wellbeing!

Personalization isn’t new – in fact, it’s ancient

We are all unique in terms of our purpose, goals, desires, beliefs and even physical body type. Our most ancient healing systems including ayurveda and traditional chinese medicine recognized this, and paved the way for other personalized approaches to bring the mind, emotions and soul into a state of harmony.

Mind-body wellness expert and best-selling author, Jaya Jaya Myra, has a few tips on how we can celebrate International Mind-Body Wellness Day today and every day:

Use The WELL Method to create a personalized plan for a healthy mindset

Jaya Jaya Myra created The WELL Method to help people create a positive, healthy mindset. The beauty is, each person can customize it to their own unique needs, beliefs, lifestyle and personal ethos. Here’s the framework:

W – Work-Life Harmony

E – Expect/Enable Excellence

L – Love, Not Fear

No matter what your goals, The WELL Method can help you succeed and keep the important things in life in focus, while reminding you that you are strong, worthy and capable of anything! You can learn more about The WELL Method in The Soul of Purpose.

International Mind-Body Wellness Day timeline

3000–1500 B.C.
Ayurveda

Considered to be the oldest healing science and arising from ancient Vedic culture, Ayurvedic knowledge originates in India and paves the way for many of the modern natural healing systems in the West.

3000–2000 B.C.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

This form of ancient Chinese medicine is developed and involves acupuncture, herbal medicine, cupping, massaging and movement exercises like tai chi.

500 B.C.
Ancient Greek Medicine

The humoral theory, based on the idea that good health comes from a perfect balance of the four humors: blood, phlegm, yellow bile, and black bile, is the main medicinal system during this time and Hippocrates develops the Hippocratic Oath.

1790s
Homeopathy

Dr. Samuel Hahnemann begins developing the form of complimentary or alternative medicine called homeopathy, based on the idea that “like cures like” — small doses of a natural substance that causes symptoms can help to improve those same symptoms.

1860s
Hydrotherapy

Involving the use of water for pain relief, the pioneers of hydrotherapy were Vincent Preissnitz and Sebastian Kneipp in the 18th and 19th centuries — it eventually spreads to the U.S. when John Harvey Kellogg begins using it in the Battle Creek Sanitorium.

1870s
Osteopathy

A branch of medical practice developed by Andrew Taylor Still in the U.S., osteopathy is a ‘hands-on’ approach to the treatment of medical disorders through the manipulation and massage of the bones, joints, and muscles.

1890s
Chiropractic

Daniel David Palmer performs the first chiropractic adjustment on a janitor named William Harvey Lillard who was suffering from partial deafness due to one of the vertebra in his back ‘popping’ out of position.

1914
Reiki

Matiji Kawakami, a Japanese therapist, creates a healing style he calls Reiki Ryoho — a healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient's body and restore physical and emotional well-being.

1950s
Organic Farming

This movement begins to counter the harmful effects of commercial pesticides, artificial fertilizers, genetic modification, food additives and growth hormones in farming and agriculture.

International Mind-Body Wellness Day Activities

  1. Find your favorite mindfulness practice

Practicing mindfulness can be done in so many different ways! The key is to find a technique suited to your unique temperament and elemental type. Whether that be meditation or yoga, acts of kindness and service, mindful eating, or practicing daily self-care and appreciation, mind-body wellness plays a huge role in improving the quality of life.

  2. Get a good night's sleep

Good sleep is foundational to lowering stress and keeping the body healthy. Before heading off to bed, try shutting off your devices at least one hour before bedtime. Allow your brain and body time to decompress, away from outside distractions and stressors. Aim to get at least 6-8 hours of sleep a night.

  3. Create daily routines that support strong inner prosperity

Routines create habits, and positive routines can rewire your brain. The mind craves consistency! Try adding some positive self-affirmations to your daily routine. Take some time each day, just for you, doing something you love. This small act of self care can move mountains in terms of confidence building, self acceptance and overall well-being.

Why We Love International Mind-Body Wellness Day

  1. Everybody needs a healthy mind

The mind is one of the most powerful tools we have to create a healthy life and a better world. A positive mindset can lead to a stronger immune system, more vitality and energy, a healthy microbiome, reduced stress and cortisol levels, and even balance your hormones.

  2. Purpose creates better health

Living a purpose driven life can have a direct impact on your physical health and lifespan. Purpose is foundational to a healthy mindset: as we’ve discussed above this boosts the immune system, helps the microbiome thrive, balances hormones and so much more.

  3. Mind body soul wellbeing transforms you, and society too

A healthy mind and stable emotions are the foundations of a tolerant and sustainable society. Want to make the world a better place? It starts with you. It takes a healthy mindset to create peace and tolerance in our society. As Jaya Jaya Myra says, “We have a collective responsibility towards inner-transformation to create a just, sustainable and peaceful world.”
